Topic: A Reply to them who opposes to pray Nafl ‘Ibadah on the night of Al-Isra Wal-Mi’raj (Rajab 27)

Al-Isra has been depicted in Quranulkareem on the Chapter of Al-Suratul Isra (or, Bani Israeel).A person who refuses to go from the Masjid al-Haram to the Baitul Muqaddas is considered a Kafir. The I’raaj, refers that the, prophetic ascension to the upper sky has been proved by ‘Hadith Al-Ahad’s or ‘Mutawatir’s.

➤➤➤Date of Al-Isra Night:-

Allama Hafiz Ibn Kathir mentioned that,

ان الاسراء كان ليلة السابع والعشرين من رجب، وقد اختاره الحافظ عبد الغني بن سرور المقدسي في سيرته والله اعلم

translation: Surely Al-Isra took place on the 27th night of the month of Rajab and it has been given priority by Hafizul-Hadith Allama Abdul Ghani Ibn Sarur Al Maqdisi in his book Sirat.Allah knows best.

Imam Al-Haramain (Imam of the both Harams) Allama Ismail Haqqi Hanfi mentioned that,

وكان الاسراء ليلة السابع والعشرين من رجب علي ما عليه الاكثر في السنة الثانية عشرة من النبوة قبل الهجرة،

translation:The Mi’raj Sharif of the Prophet took place on the 27th of Rajab in the twelfth year of the Prophethood. On which the majority has an opinion.

➤➤➤Fazail of 27th Rajab:

Hujjatul Islam Imam Gazali mentioned 15 holy nights, on the chapter of ﺑﻴﺎﻥ ﺍﻟﻠﻴﺎﻟﻲ ﻭﺍﻻﻳﺎﻡ ﺍﻟﻔﺎﺿﻠﺔ, in his famous ‘Ihiya Ulum Ad-Din’.He mentioned here,27th Rajab is the holy night when Al-Isra Wal-Mi’raj took place.

Some form of Nafl-Prayer proven by ‘Hasan’ graded Hadith:-

Hadith #1:

ﻋﻦ ﺍﻧﺲ ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻪ ﻋﻦ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺻﻠﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ ﺍﻧﻪ ﻗﺎﻝ : ﻓﻲ ﺭﺟﺐ ﻟﻴﻠﺔ ﻛُﺘﺐ ﻟﻠﻌﺎﻣﻞ ﻓﻴﻬﺎ ﺣﺴﻨﺎﺕُ ﻣﺌﺔ ﺳﻨﺔ، ﻭﺫﻟﻚ ﻟﺜﻼﺙ ﺑﻘﻴﻦ ﻣﻦ ﺭﺟﺐ، ﻓﻤﻦ ﺻﻠَّﻰ ﻓﻴﻪ ﺍﺛﻨﺘﻲ ﻋﺸﺮﺓ ﺭﻛﻌﺔ، ﻳﻘﺮﺃ ﻓﻲ ﻛﻞ ﺭﻛﻌﺔ ﻓﺎﺗﺤﺔ ﺍﻟﻜﺘﺎﺏ، ﻭﺳﻮﺭﺓ ﻣﻦ ﺍﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ، ﻳﺘﺸﻬﺪ ﻓﻲ ﻛﻞ ﺭﻛﻌﺘﻴﻨﻦ ﻭﻳﺴﻠﻢ ﻓﻲ ﺁﺧﺮﻫﻦ، ﻭﻳﻘﻮﻝ ﺑﻌﺪ ﺻﻼﺗﻪ : ﺳﺒﺤﺎﻥ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ، ﻭﺍﻟﺤﻤﺪ ﻟﻠﻪ، ﻭﻻ ﺇﻟﻪ ﺇﻻ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ، ﻭﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺃﻛﺒﺮ ﻣﺌﺔ ﻣﺮﺓ، ﻭﻳﺴﺘﻐﻔﺮ ﻣﺌﺔ ﻣﺮﺓ ، ﻭﻳﺼﻠﻲ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻨﺒﻲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﺍﻟﺴﻼﻡ ﻣﺌﺔ ﻣﺮﺓ، ﻭﻳﺪﻋﻮ ﻟﻨﻔﺴﻪ ﻣﺎ ﺷﺎﺀ ﻣِﻦ ﺍﻣﺮ ﺩﻧﻴﺎﻩ ﻭﺁﺧﺮﺗﻪ، ﻭﻳﺼﺒﺢ ﺻﺎﺋﻤﺎً؛ ﻓﺈﻥ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻳﺴﺘﺠﻴﺐ ﺩﻋﺎﺀﻩُ ﻛﻠَّﻪ؛ ﺇﻻ ﺃﻥ ﻳﺪﻋﻮ ﻓﻲ ﻣﻌﺼﻴﺔ

Narrated Anas bin Malik R.A narrated that, The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “There is a night in Rajab that has the reward of “Good deeds of 100 years” for those who do good deeds.And that is the night of the 27th of Rajab. On this night, “12 rak’at” prayers will be offered, Surah Fatiha and another Surah in each rak’at and Attahiyatu will be recited after every two rak’ats.After completing Salat, “Subhallahi wal Hamdu lillahi wal ilaha illallahu Allahu Akbar” will be read for 100 times. Istigfar, that is, “Astagfirullah Rabbi Min Kulli Yambi Wa Atubu Ilahi La Hawla Wala Qawwata Illa Billahil Aliyil Azeem” will be recited 100 times. Durood Sharif will be recited 100 times. And he will make du’a for whatever he wants in this world and in the hereafter and will fast during the day, but Allah will accept all his du’a, except for those du’a which are done for sin.

Hadith #2:

ﻋﻦ ﺳﻠﻤﺎﻥ ﺍﻟﻔﺎﺭﺳﻲ ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻪ ﻗﺎﻝ : ﻗﺎﻝ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺻﻠﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ : ﻓﻲ ﺭﺟﺐ ﻳﻮﻡ ﻭﻟﻴﻠﺔ؛ ﻣﻦ ﺻﺎﻡ ﺫﻟﻚ ﺍﻟﻴﻮﻡ، ﻭﻗﺎﻡ ﺗﻠﻚ ﺍﻟﻠﻴﻠﺔ؛ ﻛﺎﻥ ﻛﻤﻦ ﺻﺎﻡ ﺍﻟﺪﻫﺮ ﻣﺌﺔ ﺳﻨﺔ، ﻭﻗﺎﻡ ﻣﺌﺔ ﺳﻨﺔ، ﻭﻫﻮ ﻟﺜﻼﺙٍ ﺑﻘﻴﻦَ ﻣﻦ ﺭﺟﺐ

translation:Narrated from Hazrat Salman Farsi R.A he said: The Prophet ﷺ said: There is a day and a night in Rajab, whoever fasts on this day and pray salat at night, he will be rewarded as he fasted for “100 years” and prayed “100 years”. And that is 27th date of Rajab.

Hadith 3:

ﻋﻦ ﺃﺑﻲ ﻫﺮﻳﺮﺓ ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻪ ﺃﻥ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺻﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ ﻗﺎﻝ : ﻣﻦ ﺻﺎﻡ ﻳﻮﻡ ﺳﺒﻊ ﻭﻋﺸﺮﻳﻦ ﻣﻦ ﺭﺟﺐ ﻛﺘﺐ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻟﻪ ﺻﻴﺎﻡ ﺳﺘﻴﻦ ﺷﻬﺮﺍً ﻭﻫﻮ ﺍﻟﻴﻮﻡ ﺍﻟﺬﻱ ﺃﻫﺒﻂ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻓﻴﻪ ﺟﺒﺮﺍﺋﻴﻞ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﺍﻟﺴﻼﻡ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﺻﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ ﺑﺎﻟﺮﺳﺎﻟﺔ

translation:

Narrated Abu Huraira R.A narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: Whoever fasts on the 27th of Rajab, Allah will record the reward of fasting for 60 months, that is, five years.

➤➤➤An objection and its answer:

Imam Abul Hasan Ali,in his Tanzihus Sharia 20/161, commented on the hadith of Hazrat Salman R.A that,

قال الحافظ ابن الحجر العسقلاني في تبعين العجب “هو ابن بسطام النميمي الهروري” رؤي عن جماعة من التابعين و ضعفه ابن معين،

translation:Hafizul Hadith Ibn Hajar Asqalani in his book “Tabeinul Ajab” says about Ibn Bustam An Namimi Al-Hajrami: He narrated this hadith from a group of Tabi’is and Ibn Mu’in called him Da’if.

✪✪✪Reply:

➤We have narrated the hadith from another chain that compiled in Al-Guniah,which has no Al-Hajrami in its chain.

➤Imam Baihaqi reported in his Shu’ab,about the hadith that,و رؤي ذلك باسناد اخر اضعف, means,there is a another narration that contains a Da’if Rawi.

That means,this chain is more effective than unprescribed one.

In Usulul Hadith,whenever two or more than two acceptable chains get connected through the matn of the hadith, then the hadith would be graded as ‘Hasan’.

Hence,Nafl is proved.

Again, even if we take it for a while, it is weak,then the rule of weak hadith is:-

Imam Dhahabi reported that,

قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ حَزْمٍ: جَمِيعُ الْحَنَفِيَّةِ مُجْمِعُونَ عَلَى أَنَّ مَذْهَبِ أَبِي حَنِيفَةَ أَنَّ ضَعِيفَ الْحَدِيثِ أَوْلَى عِنْدَهُ مِنَ الْقِيَاسِ وَالرَّأْيِ.

translation:I mam Abu Muhammad ibn Hazm said, “All Hanafi scholars agree that it is better for a scholar to follow the hadith of Dwaif Sanad than to have his own Qiyas and judgment.”

Imam Nawawi said that,

قد اتفق العلماء على جواز العمل بالحديث الضعيف فى فضائل الاعمال:مقدمة المؤلف

The scholars have all agreed on this point that Da’if Hadith is acceptable for Fayyil Amal.

Where Da’if Hadith is so important, we have proved ‘Hasan’. After that, I do not understand how the deviant people call it bid’at.
